The “The Tour Man” Baker put together another wonderful tour. We gathered at the Miracle Mile shopping center for an early morning departure. Our first stop was the Bushy Run Battlefield. The British victory here in August 1763 was significant to securing this region of Pennsylvania for European settlement.

After another scenic drive, we arrived in Normalville to pick up lunch for those who didn’t pack their own. Unfortunately, the picnic pavilion at the Tharp Knob picnic area that Tim had rented for us was unavailable because someone forgot to open the gate to the parking area. Those who had brown-bagged it alerted the others, then had our lunch at the closed-off driveway. The group who stopped in Normalville had their lunch in the parking lot at the falls in Ohiopyle.

Unfazed, we regrouped and headed to our next stop, the Connellsville Canteen, where we marveled at the Indian Creek Valley miniature train layout hand-crafted by Harry Clark, and displays of World War II memorabilia. Some of us bought fresh, hot coffee at the Canteen, perfect for a cool spring day.

Those who didn’t head for home from Connellsville made one last stop, at the Greendance Winery.
