10/17/93 “UNVEIL THE 1994 MUSTANG” EVENT held at North Park Ice Rink, where Ford’s Chief Engineer John Coletti gave a presentation about Team Mustang’s design efforts, then he unveiled the “never before seen” 1994 Mustang! Lunch was provided by GPMC to guests, and despite slight rain Mustangers from several states joined our local pony herd. TV/Press coverage and the crowds were “abundant” (cops may have used another word!); from all the Mustang enthusiasm and more than a few spectators were inspired to become GPMC members on that very day! The Grand Finale was a caravan of 220+ ponies following Chuck Kalish and John Coletti in the new ’94 for a Mustang stampede around North Park Lake.
4/15/94 CHARLOTTE, N.C. “WESTERN PONY PARTY” was a banquet dinner hosted by GPMC at the Hilton during “30 Yr. Mustang Anniversary” MCA Event. Ford Reps. & dignitaries including John Coletti, Austin Craig, MCA Officers, and 10 Mustang Clubs were represented. (21 Swedish Pony Pals onhand!) Editor & staff of Mustang Illustrated & Mustang Monthly attended…GPMC’s Banquet in Charlotte proclaimed: “BEST PARTY OF THE YEAR” in Dec. ’94 Mustang Monthly Magazine!
6/17/95 PONYRIDES for MAKE-A-WISH KIDS at Rt. 8 “Super Cruise.” George Welsh allowed GPMC to set up their “clubhouse” at the cruise site and host 62 MAW youngsters & their families. The special guests were treated to dinner, shirt, goodie bags, & coloring fun with GPMC Members, and also a photo op with the cruise vehicle of their choice! Finale was each Wish Child selected a club Mustang they weanted to “saddle up” in, while all the cruisers & spectators formed a “parade lane” and DJ played “Happy Trails” song. (Both child & GPMC Driver were announced during the 31 Ponys on Parade!) Members who participated in this special event know it was truly a heartwarming experience for all.
Sept. 23 & 24 1995 GPMC’s AUTO FEST at Coopers Lake, Slippery Rock, PA. This two day event billed as “Woodstock for Vehicle Lovers” included 265+ pre-registered car & truck participants (all makes & models) for display, with overnight camping fun! Ford Detroit sent its “promo tractor trailer rig,” SCCA Mustangs, & NASCAR, in addition to Saleen & local Ford Dealers providing mega displays, too. A parts swap, craft area, food/drink/game vendors also onsite, which entertained more than 1,000 spectators. (Auto Fest was lots of work for members, but it was a great fund raiser for GPMC treasury and also allowed a $3,400 Make-A-Wish donation!)
9/04/96 “PITT STOP IN THE ‘BURG” to welcome Mustangs Across America caravan thru Pgh. region! Lunch provided & located at Woltz Wind Ford, Heidelberg.
9/26/99 “UNVEIL THE MUSTANG POSTAGE STAMP, McKnight Rd. Post Office. GPMC event had 131 pre-registered Mustangs for display (including Canat’s!) to celebrate the release of the U.S. Commemorative Mustang Postage Stamp. TV coverage, Mustanger photo ops, with New Stamp, spectators & hoopla a plenty! City Mayor issued “PROCLAMATION OF OFFICIAL MUSTANG DAY in Pgh!”
